Claiming Your Keno Prizes
By now, you should know how to read Keno results, as well as have an understanding of the different prizes up for grabs and the odds you need to beat to get those prizes. But, once you’ve won, it’s also important to be aware of the procedures for claiming your prize after the Keno results have been made known. As mentioned previously, all participating Keno states have their own rules and regulations regarding the game of Keno. We cannot discuss the prevalent procedures for every state, but we’ve chosen the Michigan Lottery as a case study.
Online Purchases
Online purchases valued at $600 or less is deposited directly into your Michigan Lottery account. You can withdraw your winnings from the account at any time provided that the minimum amount you plan to withdraw is $10.
If your prize is valued from $600 up to $50,000, you are required to submit an online claim to process your winnings. To start this process, you need to log onto your Michigan Lottery account. Once you’re logged in, find the “My Account” tab select the “Tax Reported Prizes” option. Follow the instructions to claim your prize. You may need to provide copies of your social security card and state ID. Once all the required documentation has been submitted and approved, you may withdraw your winnings from your lottery account.
Prizes of $50,001 or more need to be claimed directly from the lottery headquarters. You will log onto your account and follow the same process as above. You’ll then await an email from headquarters with an appointment date. Walk-ins are allowed, but this route takes much longer. You’ll need to provide a few personal documentation here as well.
In-store Purchases
To claim a prize from an in-store purchase, you’ll need to provide the original winning ticket to the relevant authorities. The ticket must first pass all security checks and be deemed valid before you are allowed to withdraw.
Prizes amounting to $600 and less can be claimed at any Michigan Lottery retailer. Most retailers redeem prizes out of courtesy to customers, but they are not required to do so by law or any lottery rule. Each retailer has its own strict policies that govern how cash prizes are dealt.
Prizes that add up to $600 and more can be claimed at a regional lottery office, among other places. You will need to present the original ticket as well as the documentation mentioned above. Big prizes of up to $50,000 can also be claimed at a regional lottery office between certain times.
