Blackjack Switch Rules

Since the goal of Blackjack is to get to 21, a score of 22 results in an automatic push against all hands that are not over 21. Thereafter, blackjacks pay even money instead of the normal 3:2 payout for a natural blackjack. Six or eight card decks are used and the dealer deals the cards faced up.

The Switch decision is a challenge for novice players and experienced players alike. Some switches are obvious, but some are difficult when cards are similar. You  must understand the dealer’s up card strength to determine the strategy by identifying if the dealer’s face-up card is a potential deuce, stronger, or weaker.

As in any Blackjack variation, face-up cards are defined as strong cards that range from the number 7 up to the ace. Weak hands include cards ranging from 3 to 6. The 2 cards rarely result in a player busting in this type of Blackjack due to the dealer’s automatic push feature.

In Blackjack Switch, players have winner, loser, push, or chance hands. Sample winner hands include an ace and a 7 versus a 7 or 19 versus a 2. Loser player hands are 16 versus 8 or 5 versus 8. Push hands are 19 versus 9 or ace and 7 versus 8.

For instance, if you received a 5 with a 10 for one hand and an ace with a 7 for the other hand, you can switch the cards from each hand to create a strong hand, such as putting the 10 and ace together to make 21. Only the second card dealt can be switched.

How to Play

The rules are very similar to the regular blackjack game. But there are some differences that you need to know about before making real money bets. Here are the rules that you can use to play this game.

  1. You have to play and make bets on two hands.
  2. Switching your top two cards between your two hands is allowed.
  3. You will also be allowed it resplit up to four hands where you have to make the same bet on each hand.
  4. Splits and doubling are allowed. A hand can only be split once and the dealer only deals one card if aces are split.
  5. A blackjack hand that you get after a split are counted as a 21 rather than a natural blackjack.
  6. After you switch your top cards you can double your bet.
  7. If you manage to get a blackjack, you will be paid even money and your blackjack will always beat a 21.
  8. Insurance can be purchased as in standard Blackjack.

Blackjack Switch Basic Strategy

Mental clarity is important to be able to switch the top cards of each hand, as well as understand the card hand you could have by switching. Basic rules of switching include switching if you can take action on any hand or if you can make a winner stronger than a dealer’s face-up card.

Always switch if you believe you can make one of your hands a winning blackjack hand, as it is worth the risk. You can learn these rules and many more by playing online or downloading the Blackjack Switch game.

Gaining the basic switching strategy of power hands will permit more winning combinations and gain an edge against the house. This is essential when playing for real money. Other important elements include understanding what a stiff hand is as well. Remember to maintain the basic rules of standing on a 17 or higher.
