Coronavirus Forces Las Vegas Casinos to Close

A string of casinos in Las Vegas has decided to shutter its operations for the foreseeable future. This is due to the outbreak of the coronavirus. Dubbed COVID-19, the virus has spread across the world. It has forced governments to institute a state of emergency and lockdown of certain districts that have high traffic.

Some of the casinos mentioned include MGM Resorts and Wynn Resorts. The World Health Organization announced that the virus was a pandemic last week. The spread has since risen around the globe to necessitate this reaction.

As the world rushes to find a vaccine for the virus, thousands are quarantined daily. As a result, businesses are compelled to put measures in place to avoid the spread.  At first, casinos instituted face masks, gloves, and disinfectants in high-risk games such as poker rooms and card table games.

Coronavirus Nationwide Outbreak Forces Closure

The spread of COVID-19 precipitated the closure of some of the major casinos in the United States. MGM Chairman Jim Murren released a statement on Sunday announcing the temporary suspension of operations in Las Vegas. It was suggested that the decision was taken “for the good of our employees, guests, and communities.”

Wynn Resorts took a similar decision to close its two properties in Las Vegas. With no indication of when the quarantine is due to end, the casino did not specify when it would reopen.

Casinos that Still Operate in Las Vegas

While there are many casinos that have closed their doors, a few casinos are still welcoming gamblers on their premises. Under those conditions, the government of Nevada has allowed the games to continue under stringent conditions.
